The power went down at 1:15pm this afternoon. The internet went down with it. We live in an area with poor cell reception and make heavy use of WiFi calling. So phone calls were difficult, I received one, and internet was possible if I sat on a certain chair outside and used a weak cellular signal. This evening I discovered that with the doors open, to cool the house down after a warm evening, that same cellular signal was accessible sat inside by the open doors. Twitter was my access to Hawaiian Electric’s occasional updates.
It is now 8:18pm and the power has just come back on - 7 hours later. It makes me realize how fragile the systems are that we live by, and I am grateful to those who maintain them.
